CR2450 Coin Cell Battery

CR2450 is a 3V Coin Cell Battery by Panasonic which delivers consistent and long-lasting power. It’s made of Lithium Manganese Dioxide (LiMnO2) and is ultra-compact in design. It has a capacity 620mAh and it’s not rechargeable. It’s one of the CR series of batteries of Panasonic. The CR series of Panasonic coin battery capacity ranges from 25mAh to 1000mAh.

Where to use CR2450 Cell

Coin cells are used to power up various electronic gadgets where less voltage is required and portability is given more importance. Although these coin batteries are only 3V, they can last almost a year (depending on the current drawn by the circuit, temperature, and other parameters). The coin batteries are used with the battery holder.

Note: Shorting these coin cell batteries often damage the batteries. Always use a cell holder to mount the battery to the circuit. Tampering with the batteries or soldering them directly to the circuit could be dangerous.

 

How to check if the battery is good or not using DMM

Since we’re talking about a 3V coin battery, we can assume that if the voltage of the battery is lesser than 2.5V, we can say it’s not good to supply enough power. So, in a coin cell battery, the flat side is always the positive side and the rounded side is always the negative side. If you still get confused, you can check for “+” sign on the battery. That indicates the positive side and “-” mark indicates the negative side. Set the DMM to “DC voltage” and place the black probe of the DMM on the center of the negative side and place the battery on a table (non-conductive) and red probe on the edge of the battery (this will be the positive side). If the battery measures a few millivolts higher or lesser, it’s good enough (a 3V battery can also be 3.3V sometimes, even then it’s a good and stable battery).

Coin cell batteries can be used for a variety of purposes; the circuit shown demonstrates how to link a CR2450 coin cell battery to a basic LED circuit. The CR2450 has a nominal voltage of 3.0V along with a current limiting resistor of 220 ohm to protect the LED.
