MIC5205 LDO Regulator Overview
The MIC5205 is an efficient linear voltage regulator with ultra-low noise output, very low dropout voltage (165 mV at 150 mA), and very low ground current (600 µA at 100 mA output). The input voltage of the Regulator can be between 2.5V to 16V. MIC5205 is especially designed for hand-held, battery-powered devices, and includes a CMOS or TTL compatible enable/shutdown control input. When shut down, power consumption drops near to zero. The output voltage of the MIC5205 can be from 2.5V to 5V, you can use the below table to select the right part number
MIC5205 is generally used in Laptop, Notebook, and Palmtop Computers and other battery-Powered Equipment’s.
How to use the MIC5205
MIC5205 low dropout regulator comes in 5-pin package in which the enable pin can be used turn on or off the regulator, this helps the designers to turn off the regulator and prevent battery usage when not in use. A capacitor from ADJ to ground is used for improved noise performance. The Adjust pin is used to set the output voltage of the regulator to the required value using the below circuit.
The MIC5205 can be adjusted to a specific output voltage by using two external resistors of desired values. As you can see the resistors values R1 and R2 decides the output voltage Vout of our regulator. The resistors set the output voltage based on the following equation:
V = 1.242V × (R2\R1 + 1)
The dropout voltage of the regulator can vary between 17mV to a maximum of 150mV based on the current drawn from the regulator.
