The beginning of September was an interesting week with lots of exciting components being launched for various automotive electronics, industrial applications, and medical equipment. In this article, we’ll look towards the features and applications of the devices like high-current and broadband inductors, integrated half-bridge drivers, and DC/DC converters. These components suit a wide range of applications like filtering and DC/DC conversion in engines, vehicle-mounted cameras, high-voltage Power-Factor Correction (PFC), entertainment/navigation systems, etc.

IHLP-2020CZ-8A Inductor

The high current IHLP-2020CZ-8A inductor from Vishay Intertechnology combines a continuous operating temperature to +180°C with a low profile of 3mm to save space in under the hood automotive applications. This Inductor features high efficiency with typical DCR from 3.95mΩ to 195mΩ and a wide range of inductance values from 0.22µH to 15.0µH. This AEC-Q200 qualified Inductor provides excellent attenuation of noise in high current filtering applications up to the SRF of the inductor and is packaged in a 100 % lead (Pb)-free shielded, composite construction that reduces buzz to ultra-low levels.

This device is designed for filtering and DC/DC conversion in engine and transmission control units, diesel injection drivers, advanced driver assistance systems, exhaust gas recycling pumps, and entertainment/navigation systems. Samples and production quantities of the IHLP-2020CZ-8A Inductors are now available, with lead times of 10 weeks.

LQW43FT_0H Series Inductors

New LQW43FT_0H broadband inductors for Bias-T circuits from Murata provide high inductance of 22μH and a high current of 700 mA in vehicle-mounted PoC used in Serializer or Deserializer interfaces. This Series provides high-impedance performance over a broad range in the low-frequency band from several MHz to 100MHz. This product can be used in combination with existing Murata products LQW32FT_0H Series (1210-inch size) and LQW21FT_0H Series (0805-inch size) to reduce the number of parts and mounting space required for PoC.

These inductors use Murata's original ceramic materials and coil structures to offer high performance and can help to reduce the size and weight of devices installed in vehicle-mounted cameras. The mass production of the LQW43FT_0H series is scheduled to begin in September 2021.

MasterGaN3 and MasterGaN5 Drivers/Devices

New 45W and 150W MasterGaN integrated half-bridge drivers from STMicroelectronics are optimized for high-voltage applications with a 2mm creepage distance between high-voltage and low-voltage pads. The new MasterGaN3 and MasterGaN5 integrated power packages integrate two 650V power transistors with optimized high-voltage gate drivers and associated safety and protection circuitry, eliminating gate-driver and circuit-layout design challenges. Moreover, both devices have inputs compatible with logic signals from 3.3V to 15V, which simplifies the connection of a host DSP, FPGA, or microcontroller, and external devices such as Hall sensors. 

These devices are best suited for designing switched-mode power supplies, chargers, adapters, high-voltage Power-Factor Correction (PFC), and DC/DC converters. MasterGaN3 and MasterGaN5 Devices are now in production, priced from $6.08 and $5.77 respectively, for orders of 1000 pieces.

THR Reinforced isolated DC/DC converters Series

New THR Line of Reinforced isolated DC/DC converters from Traco Power feature increased resistance against shock and vibration and comprises four series of DC/DC converters with reinforced isolation of 3000V AC. High efficiencies of these devices allow safe operation from –40°C to +80°C (with derating) and these converters feature increased resistance against shock and vibration according to EN 61373 and come in either a DIP-24 or a 2”x1” package. These devices have a wide 4:1 input voltage range and precisely regulated, isolated output voltages. 

THR Line of Reinforced isolated DC/DC converters is designed for industrial, transportation, and instrumentation applications. 

B0505ST16-W5 DC/DC Converter

B0505ST16-W5 fixed input, DC/DC converter from MORNSUN features system operating voltage up to 849VDC and low isolation capacitance. This converter with reinforced 5KV AC high isolation and trimmable output voltages offers a wide temperature range which makes it work stably in harsh environments. Moreover, this converter features an integrated soft-start circuit to prevent inrush current and output overshoot.
