High Performing 16nm FinFET Technology-Based New Automotive Processors Released for Radar and Vehicle Networking
Continuing to deliver the improved performance and rigorous automotive process qualifications to deliver safe next-generation computing power, NXP Semiconductors has announced the release of two new advanced processors, the S32G2 vehicle network processor and the S32R294 radar processor. The 16 nanometer (nm) FinFET process technology from TSSMC enables these new automotive processors to pave the way for a wider migration to TSMC’s 5nm process for the NXP S32 family of vehicle processors.
The S32G2 vehicle networking processor enables service-oriented gateways for secure cloud connectivity and over-the-air updates. These processors are well-suited for vehicle networking and combine ASIL D safety, hardware security, high-performance real-time and application processing, and network acceleration for service-oriented gateways, domain controllers, and safety co-processors.
These processors offer more than 10x the performance and networking of the automotive gateway devices previously released by the company. The TSMC’s 16nm technology allows the S32G2 to consolidate multiple devices into one, thereby creating a powerful System-on-Chip (SoC) that reduces its footprint.
On the other hand, the S32R294 radar processor enables customers to come up with scalable, safe and secure automotive RADAR systems with high performance. The 16nm technology enhances their performance, making them suitable for scalable solutions for NCAP and advanced corner radar. This also enables long-range front radar and advanced multi-mode use cases like simultaneous blind-spot detection, lane change assistance, and elevation sensing.
